＜学んだこと＞

・プレゼン資料作成ツール「Canva」の存在を初めて知った。

・聴衆に一方的にプレゼンした後に彼らにアウトプットさせることで、理解度や関心をより上げられることを学んだ。またアウトプット手法の1つとしてアクティブラーニングがあり、今回は「ワールドカフェ」のやり方を知った。

・「報連相」の大切さを改めて感じた。

→インターン生同士で共同編集できるファイルを用いて資料作成を進めたため、ファイルを開く度に内容が変わっていることがあった。ゆえに、「誰がどの部分を、どのように変えたのか」がすぐには分からなかった。そこで、該当箇所を太字にして変更前の表記と併記するようにした結果、変更箇所が可視化できるようになり、作業がより円滑に進んだ。

→資料作りは基本的に個人作業だったため、他のインターン生や社員の方に現状を把握してもらえるよう、進捗を毎日報告した。これによって1日に進めた分を可視化でき、翌日の作業内容やペースを決めるにあたっても参考になった。

・他人のアイデアに意見を述べる時に、まずは共感や肯定することの大切さを学んだ

→最初にポジティブな言葉をかけることで雰囲気が明るくなり、そこから次々と色々なアイデアが挙がった。その結果、会議や資料作成がより楽しく、円滑に進んだ。

＜成長できたこと＞

・社員寮での生活を通じて、効率の良い動線やタイムスケジュールを考えながら生活できるようになった。

→社員寮はキッチンやシャワー室、トイレや洗濯機が自分の部屋と離れており、部屋との行き来が不便であった。そこで、「部屋を出たら何を、どの順番で行うのか」、「その時々で必要な物は何か」を必ず一度整理するようになり、無駄な行き来を減らして生活する習慣が身に付いた。

・今回の滞在が独り暮らしの良い訓練になった。

→自分は独り暮らしをしたことがなく、家事や洗濯、買い物は全て親に頼っていた。そのため、最初は身の回りのことを全て独りでこなし、体調を管理できるかが不安だった。しかし、将来自立できるようになるための訓練だと自分に言い聞かせ、結果として毎日自炊や洗濯を欠かさずにこなすことができ、体調を崩さず2週間強を乗り切れた。

・他人と関わることで自分の視野を広げられた。

→自分にはない経験や価値観を持つ方にたくさん出会って色々お話したことで、視野や知見が広がった。

＜感じたこと＞

・地域の方々と一緒に取り組む活動の楽しさや達成感を感じた。

→特に森づくり活動は、作業に取り組んだ分だけ成果が目に見えて表れるので、やりがいと達成感を大いに感じた。また、住民の方々と触れ合い、色々お話しながら活動するのが楽しかった。

1. Overall Reflection 

This internship focused on environmental awareness and environmental education. During the program, I participated in three main activities: the elementary school presentation program where I worked as a facilitator, the Team Wood Repurpose (TWR) event, and a presentation at Tokyo Metropolitan Ogasawara High School, where we conducted an active learning session using the World Café method. Overall, I truly enjoyed every day of the experience, especially because it involved education and community engagement. 

At the beginning, I felt anxious since the entire program was conducted in Japanese, and I was worried that my language proficiency might not be enough to fully participate. However, after arriving and experiencing everything in person, I genuinely felt that I was glad I came. Not only did I enjoy the experience, but I was also able to learn more about the island, the community, and the people, while improving both my skills and myself. 

2. Memorable Experiences 

All of the activities were memorable, but if I had to choose one, the Team Wood Repurpose (TWR) event stood out the most. It was meaningful to see so many children, from elementary to high school students, actively participating in forest-building activities. I was especially impressed by their teamwork and the strong relationships they shared with one another. It made the experience feel very lively and genuine, and I only wish I could have participated more than once. 

Beyond the organized activities, what made the experience truly special were the everyday interactions with people in the community. I built meaningful connections and friendships with high school students, played volleyball with junior and senior high school students, joined a small local kendama event, and was even invited to have dinner at a staff member’s home with his family. These moments made me feel welcomed and deeply connected to the community. 

3. What You Learned 

Through this internship, I developed several important skills, including communication in Japanese, facilitation for younger audiences, presentation skills, and teamwork with both my host company and fellow interns. I also gained a deeper understanding of the island, its people, and the community through the various activities I participated in. 

One important realization I had was how strong and connected the community is. Coming from the Philippines, where my grandparents also live on an island, this experience reminded me of the true meaning of a close-knit community. People know each other, support one another, and interact regularly. This made me realize that the beauty of the island is not only in its natural environment, but also in the people who live there. 

4. Personal Growth 

During the internship, I was able to step out of my comfort zone in many ways. I pushed myself to actively engage with local people in Japanese, even when I felt unsure. Through this, I became more confident in communicating in real-life situations and learned how to adjust my communication depending on the audience. 

I also became more aware of my own limitations and learned the importance of asking for help when needed. Instead of staying quiet when I did not understand something, I started to ask questions and seek clarification. Overall, this experience helped me become more confident, adaptable, and open to new environments, while shifting my mindset from hesitation to active participation.
